First two babies born after using our Walking Egg simplified system in a mobile unit in Rustenburg, South Africa
In South Africa, the first two babies have been born following a simplified and affordable IVF treatment performed in a mobile IVF laboratory. Milayah (baby girl) was born June 18, 2025, birth weight 2.7 kg, the second baby boy (Rossouw) was born on June 20, birth weight 3.1 kg. Both babies are healthy.
This pilot project by The Walking Egg npo, Hasselt University and the University of Pretoria demonstrates that IVF can be made affordable and accessible for people in low- and middle-income countries who cannot afford traditional fertility care. With our mobile IVF lab, we can even make a greater impact in countries where distances to fertility centres are vast.
